Course information

Delivered by experienced colleagues, this interactive workshop provides an excellent introduction to lecturing and some key tips and techniques which can be used to lecture effectively.

What participants have said about a previous version of this course:

  • It was useful to have an open discussion about teaching techniques and philosophies and to hear other people's views.
  • There were a lot of great examples, and it was helpful to hear the research/evidence of what works and why. It helped me feel more knowledgeable about teaching and to feel a little better hearing how difficult it is for everyone when they first start.
  • If you are relatively/entirely new to teaching, it gives you a good overview of some of the challenges and opportunities involved with giving lectures. It also gives you an opportunity to learn from others and be reassured that everyone finds aspects of lecturing challenging, and developing an effective lecturing practice is a work-in-progress for many lecturers.

Aims and objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Be aware of effective lecturing methods
  • Have considered how they can improve their own performance and practice as a lecturer
  • Have considered practical advice from the presenters' own experiences, as well as ideas gleaned from discussions
